Spice up your life!

Here’s a sample of the pleasures of discovering those “off-the beaten track” places that absolutely delight you:
Cochin (or Kochin) in the Kerala Province of India,  is the Spice Capital of the world (more on Kochin later). I found this spice shop on Broadway – The Gujaratha Shop, a Cochin Masala Store.

As I entered, my senses were assailed by the fragrant, aromatic mix of the hundreds of spices and I closed my eyes and was transported by the heady smells, envisioning and almost tasting the delicious meals these spices would flavor.
How to choose? I wanted them all — curry leaves, so many different masalas, fennugreek and coriander– whole seeds and powdered, cumin, turmeric, asafetida, fennel and so much more! Buy by the gram and have your choices weighed and sealed in little plastic sacks.
